Visiting the region is always so educational and fun! I typically go several times a year. Are you a first time visitor? Here are some of my tips:
It’s unlike any other wine region, with many places only available by appointment. When visiting a champagne house, it’s customary to be given an overview of their approach, including a visit to the cellars and the vineyards (if they are onsite). Expect 1-2 hours for a tour & tasting. Larger houses may offer bottles for sale at the end of your visit, while smaller ones may not.
Between vineyard visits and the cobblestoned streets, I would avoid dainty-heeled shoes. And cellars can be quite cool so you may need an extra layer, even in summer.
In addition to visting houses, there are many wonderful wine shops with hard-to-find bottles and restaurants with incredible wine lists.
